How to Get Gold in Subnautica 2

Gold is one of the more difficult resources to locate in Subnautica 2. Even after setting up a Scanner Station, Gold may not appear in the available scan options, making it harder to progress toward higher-tier crafting recipes such as the Advanced Wiring Kit.

Here’s a simple guide to help you find Gold even if your Scanner Station does not detect it yet.

Where to Find Gold in Subnautica 2

Most players begin searching for Gold after unlocking the Advanced Wiring Kit recipe in the Fabricator’s Electronics tab. Since Gold is required for crafting it, many players head straight to the Scanner Station only to realize there is no Gold signal available.

The easiest workaround is to use the Scanner Station to search for Sulfur instead.

Even if Gold itself does not appear in the scan list, Sulfur usually does. Following the Sulfur signal will lead you toward the outer sections of the starting biome, specifically the hotter volcanic regions.

Once you arrive in these areas, start exploring around the volcanic vents and geysers. You should notice large golden circular rock formations scattered nearby. These are Gold resource nodes, and they can be broken open using a Sonic Resonator.

The environment in this biome is extremely hot, so surviving there for long periods can be difficult without heat resistance. To safely explore the area, it is recommended to unlock the heat-resistance genetic adaptation first. The Angel Comb adaptation is especially useful because it provides better protection against the high temperatures.

Another reliable place to gather Gold appears later in the story progression. After reaching the “Investigating the Tadpole Pens” objective, the game sends you roughly 700 to 800 meters away from your Lifepod. This area contains several Gold nodes along with additional advanced materials such as Lithium, especially around the Blackbox Zip near the Tadpole Pens.

If your Scanner Station is not showing Gold yet, progressing through missions and exploring volcanic Sulfur regions are currently the best ways to collect the resource early in the game.
