Team Cherry Hints Future Hollow Knight Games Could Stand Alone

Team Cherry has suggested that any future Hollow Knight games after Silksong could exist alongside previous entries rather than as direct sequels, allowing players to enjoy them in any order.

Studio leads Ari Gibson and William Pellen discussed the series in an interview with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). When asked about success for Silksong, they agreed that releasing it without major bugs was a key goal. The game launched largely smooth, with the only significant issue being a flawed Chinese localization, which has since been fixed.

Silksong was designed to be anyone’s first Hollow Knight game. Pellen explained, “The goal is already kind of done. We wanted to make the best version of this game that satisfies the theme.” Gibson added that Silksong branches off in a way that complements the original game and said, “I don’t think you’d feel like you lost anything by returning to the original game after playing Silksong.”

Team Cherry has also considered adding more content to Silksong, similar to the DLCs for Hollow Knight. While a continued series seems likely, the studio hopes future games will “just exist alongside one another,” offering fans new adventures without requiring previous experience.
