The Witcher’s Doug Cockle Names Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a 2025 Highlight

Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt in The Witcher, agrees that 2025 has been a great year for gaming, but he singles out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a standout. Speaking to GamesRadar+, he called it “such a beautifully written game, and beautifully conceived and achieved.”

While there have been many notable releases this year, including House Flipper 2 – Scooby-Doo DLC and quirky titles like Cheese Rolling, CheeseCatToe, and Cheese Racer, 2025 has undoubtedly been dominated by Sandfall Interactive’s French JRPG Clair Obscur. The game has set records with the number of nominations it received at The Game Awards, drawing praise for its turn-based combat and overall design.

“There’s so many great games this year,” Cockle said, “but I lean towards Clair Obscur as just a highlight of the year.”

The game has already earned top honors, taking home the Ultimate Game of the Year award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025, along with accolades like Best Soundtrack. Jennifer English won Best Lead Performer for her role as Maelle, while Ben Starr received Best Supporting Performer for his portrayal of Verso.

With these wins, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will continue its award streak at The Game Awards on December 11.
