4X strategy games can be challenging to learn, especially for newcomers. Endless Legends 2 is one of the best in the genre, but it can feel overwhelming for both new and experienced players. Here’s an easy-to-follow beginner’s guide to help you improve your gameplay.
Merge and Split Your Armies Strategically

When building your military, you’ll accumulate multiple units. These units are naturally spread out because recruiting new units like Legions takes several turns unless you spend all your dust to train them immediately.
Since units often move to different locations, encountering enemies with scattered armies can be difficult. The game does not automatically combine units for battle; only the units closest to the encounter participate.
Tip: Merge your armies to ensure they fight together in battles. You can also split them strategically into 3–4 regiments to maintain strong defenses while minimizing losses. Always remember to merge units when needed, as producing new units takes several turns.
Focus on Two or Three Key Aspects

When managing a small city, it’s best to specialize in one or two key resources at first. The main resources are:
- Food: Increases population if you have a surplus. Keep at least the minimum to avoid starvation.
- Industry: Builds structures and units faster, though excess is wasted if unused.
- Dust: The in-game currency; allows quick construction, unit training, and upkeep for a large army.
- Science: Accelerates technology research, giving access to crucial upgrades early.
- Influence: Expands territory and powers diplomacy. More territory leads to more resources.
It’s difficult to excel at all resources, so choose two or three to guide your strategy. For example, focusing on Influence lets you expand quickly, while combining Influence and Dust allows you to construct structures to further boost your resources.
Specialize by building structures that enhance your chosen resources and by managing population traits, like assigning more Scribes for Science.
Expand Your Empire With Multiple Cities

Producing units and structures is limited in a single city since only one item can be produced at a time. While larger cities produce slightly faster, having multiple cities allows simultaneous production.
Always try to reach the maximum city cap, but avoid overextending—your army must be able to defend your territory from attacks.
Convert Industry to Other Resources

Surplus Industry can be converted into other resources, but this consumes production slots that could be used for something else. Keep a balance, but use excess Industry wisely to maximize efficiency.
Customize Your Heroes Consistently

Heroes in Endless Legends 2 act as powerful military units and can also help establish cities. They have skill trees and equippable gear, similar to RPG characters.
Tip: Keep your heroes equipped with the best gear, use their skills and passives effectively, and pair them with the right armies to maximize their power.
Use Defend When You Can’t Reach the Enemy

Sometimes in battles, your units cannot attack because enemies are out of range. Moving closer may make you vulnerable.
Tip: Move slightly away and use the Defend command. This can bait enemies to approach you first while minimizing damage to your units. When armies are evenly matched, playing defensively is often the best strategy.
This guide covers the fundamental strategies for beginners and will help you start strong in Endless Legends 2.
