When you start Escape from Tarkov, you immediately enter a cutscene followed by the tutorial. The tutorial doesn’t teach much, which fits the game’s hardcore military sim style.
There’s no map to follow and only a few vague objectives, so here’s a brief guide to completing the Escape from Tarkov tutorial.
Complete Escape from Tarkov Tutorial Walkthrough
The tutorial takes place on the Ground Zero map, the beginner’s map in the game. If you’ve played before, only slight adjustments have been made for the tutorial.
You begin in the Terragroup building lobby. Go to the desk at the center and loot all the healing items. Take the tape on top of the white notebook, press “M” to play it, and advance to the next objective.
No clear objective marker appears, but the path is mostly linear. From the barricaded entrance, turn right and follow the hallway leading to the parking lot. Here, you’ll find a dead body with a Salewa (needed for a later side quest) and an MPX with three magazines.
Switch to the MPX for the upcoming fights. At the end of the hallway, turn left into the parking lot, where you’ll face two or three Scavs. Use the cars for cover and eliminate them. Loot their bodies for extra healing, weapons, and ammo. Nearby dead bodies may also contain useful loot.
Go to the opposite side of the parking garage and vault over the sandbags to exit. More Scavs await outside—take them out carefully.
Cross the street and enter the second building on the right, the only accessible one. Head straight through the hallway, where more enemies appear. At the end, open the closed door on the left and follow the staircase down. Keep following the path.
You’ll reach the back entrance of the building, with additional Scavs outside. Eliminate them from inside. Before leaving, check the tents for loot, including A-1 Medkits, CARs, and Splints—grab as much as you can carry.
Go outside and turn left. You’ll notice a green flare near a gated fence. Head to this corner to reach the Klimov Street extraction point.
This brings you back to the Escape from Tarkov lobby, where you can meet all the traders, pick up quests, and continue the main storyline.
