Microsoft’s First IP Crossover with Activision Blizzard: Mojang and King Announce Minecraft Blast

Before Microsoft began closing studios, canceling projects, and laying off developers, many hoped its acquisitions would lead to exciting crossovers between beloved studios and its growing IP library—maybe a Banjo-Kazooie revival from Double Fine, StarCraft: Ghost from id Software, or Fallout: New Vegas 2 from Obsidian. None of that happened—at least not yet.

Instead, Microsoft’s first crossover with Activision Blizzard brings Minecraft Blast, a mobile game developed by Mojang and Candy Crush creator King. The game quietly launched in a test market in Malaysia, with information limited to a small official FAQ.

Minecraft Blast is free-to-play and combines match-puzzle gameplay with ever-evolving Minecraft-themed scenarios. Players can enjoy quick, jump-in sessions while unlocking and building imaginative Minecraft-style spaces. Preview images show a tile grid filled with zombies, items, and blocks, alongside a move counter limiting turns. The main menu includes typical free-to-play features like premium currency and an energy counter.

The game is currently in playtesting, with invites lasting one to two weeks to gather feedback before a broader release. It’s available only on iOS for now, with plans to expand to more mobile platforms and regions in the future.
