Hollow Knight: Silksong applies a deliberate vignette effect to its visuals, softly masking the edges of the screen to maintain a consistent look no matter where you are in the world. This effect enhances the atmosphere and adds a sense of mystery. However, there is no option in the game to turn it off.
If you’re not a fan of this effect, modders have created tools that can either disable it entirely or let you adjust it to your preference. Several mods are available, but the one by p1xel8ted not only removes the vignette in Hollow Knight: Silksong but also offers extensive control over other visual aspects.
Disabling the Vignette Effect in Hollow Knight: Silksong
The patch by p1xel8ted was initially made to add ultrawide support for Silksong, but it includes a wide range of customization features. Here’s how to install it:
- Ensure Hollow Knight: Silksong is not running.
- Visit the GitHub page for the mod.
- Download the patch zip file (look for 01.HollowKnightSilkSong_v0.1.1_WindowsProton.7z or the latest version under Assets).
- Extract the zip file into the game’s installation folder.
- Launch Hollow Knight: Silksong and press F1 after loading a save to open the menu.
- Go to the Advanced Settings tab and select the patch.
From here, you can adjust several visual elements in real-time, including:
- Field of View (FOV)
- Hero Light (the light surrounding Hornet)
- Vignette, Vignette Alpha, Vignette Vertical Size, Vignette Horizontal Size
- Menu Clutter
- HUD Offset
Each setting offers granular control, and a Reset button is available to revert any changes to their defaults. Once satisfied, press F1 again to close the menu.
Here are some comparison examples showing the effect of these changes:

Be aware that altering the vignette and other visuals can dramatically change the game’s look. For the most authentic experience, it’s recommended to leave these settings untouched at least for your first playthrough.
All credit goes to p1xel8ted, and you can support them via Ko-fi if you’d like.
Overall, this is an excellent and comprehensive patch, giving players fine-grained control over Hollow Knight: Silksong’s visuals while also adding proper ultrawide support.
