Garry’s Mod Gets November 2025 Update with Improved Visuals, NPC Behavior, and New Weapons

Believe it or not, Garry’s Mod is still going strong 19 years after its initial release as a Half-Life mod. The November 2025 update brings a range of improvements, from visuals to NPC behavior, along with new weapons and fun additions for players.

One of the most noticeable changes is to the water visuals. According to the patch notes, liquid surfaces now appear more realistic and dynamic, using rendering techniques from newer Source Engine games. This enhancement may affect some existing maps that relied on modified materials, meaning map creators might need to make adjustments. Nevertheless, the updated, better-looking water is a welcome addition.

The patch also introduces a four-way blend shaper from newer Source Engine titles, helping create more realistic environments, especially where different meshes intersect, like streets meeting grassy areas.

NPCs have received significant attention as well. Facepunch Studios worked to improve NPC behavior, particularly regarding weapons they weren’t originally designed to use in Half-Life 2. NPCs no longer awkwardly T-pose when handling these weapons, and characters like Eli Vance can now use a wider range of weapons than before.

Finally, players get access to new toys, including a flechette gun and a jalopy seat, keeping Garry’s Mod’s quirky and unpredictable spirit alive.
