Skyblivion Delayed to 2026 as Fan Project Faces Final Challenges

Fans of Oblivion will have to wait a bit longer for Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine. The project, led by The Elder Scrolls Renewal Project, has been in development for 13 years and was previously aiming for a 2025 release. However, the team has announced that the new release window is now in 2026.

In a statement, project lead Rebelzize explained:

“Unfortunately, as we get closer to the end of this year, it pains me to announce that our initial goal of releasing Skyblivion this year is no longer possible. Despite the game being in the best state it’s ever been, we still have some last challenges to overcome that require a little more time.”

The developers emphasized that, as a fan-led project, for fans, they want to ensure the game meets high standards.

Progress on Skyblivion

  • World map: Fully complete.
  • Quest dungeons: All rebuilt uniquely, providing a fresh experience compared to Oblivion.
  • Major cities: Anvil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, and others are ready.
  • Building interiors: Mostly finished, though some 3D assets for the Imperial City remain in progress.
  • Navigation mesh: Minor adjustments needed, with full QA planned for Q1 2026.
  • UI redesign: Transitioning to a more Skyrim-like interface, expected by Q1 2026.

Rebelzize anticipates that quest-relevant locations will be completed by Q4 2025, while the remaining polish and final touches, including spells and other gameplay features, will carry into early 2026.

Despite the delay, the team’s progress is promising, and their commitment to delivering a polished, fan-focused experience remains strong. With the release of Oblivion Remastered and ongoing excitement for The Elder Scrolls VI, Rebelzize and his team are under pressure, but fans can expect Skyblivion to meet high expectations once it launches.
