When you start playing Fellowship with a new character, you literally begin from scratch. You’ll have almost no gear, and your early dungeon runs are where you’ll start equipping your first items.
Gearing Starter Guide for Fellowship

At the start, most of your gear slots are empty, and any gear you have will be Item Level 1, which is essentially nothing. After completing the tutorial, you enter the Stronghold, where all the shops are accessible.
For early gearing, you have two main options: Quickplay or Challenge (Ranked).
- Quickplay: You can choose any role and join a random party in a random dungeon. Completing the dungeon rewards Supplies and Marks of Fellowship. Supplies can be used to buy Item Level 15 gear, which helps fill all 14 gear slots: Head, Shoulder, Back, Chest, Hands, Legs, Feet, Neck, Wrists, Ring 1, Ring 2, Relic 1, Relic 2, and Weapon.
- Challenge (Ranked): Running Contender 1–3 dungeons here is more rewarding. Contender 3, for example, provides a random Item Level 30 gear piece and gold, along with a chance for Marks of Fellowship. Gold is important early because it’s used to upgrade gear.
Understanding Gear Upgrades
All gear can be upgraded, with the Item Level cap depending on rarity. Green-tier Contender gear, for example, can be upgraded 8 times, reaching Item Level 120.
Quickplay doesn’t give gold, so running Challenge or Ranked dungeons is key for both gear and upgrades.

Some weapons are character-exclusive, and legendary gear often has unique effects tailored for specific characters. For example, Sylvie’s legendary gear can modify her skills and even create alternative builds.
Best Gearing Strategy in Fellowship

- Run the highest difficulty you can: Start with Contender 1–3, then move to higher tiers as you increase your Item Level and Dungeon Rating.
- Upgrade strategically: Focus upgrades on gear pieces with ideal secondary stats for your build. Don’t overupgrade early, as gold costs increase exponentially. For the first Capstone Dungeon, Item Level 55–65 is sufficient.
- Scrap duplicate gear: Use the Scrapper to convert duplicates into gold for upgrades.
- Buy early gear if needed: Visit Quartermaster Novak to purchase essential gear, especially if you can’t loot all slots. After finishing Cithrel’s Fall, you’ll unlock Item Level 75 gear from the Quartermaster.
Repeat this process through Capstone dungeons. The first Capstone is challenging, but once cleared, your gearing path becomes easier, and higher-tier rewards await.
Following this method ensures that you efficiently progress in Fellowship while steadily improving your gear and character power.
