How To Disable the Depth of Field Effect in Death Stranding 2 on PC – Chromatic Aberration Next

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is another solid PC port from Nixxes Software and Kojima Productions, with minimal technical issues. Despite offering a large number of options to tweak, post-processing effects like depth of field cannot be disabled individually.

Here’s how you can disable it in Death Stranding 2 using a patch created by modder Lyall.

Disable the Depth of Field Effect in Death Stranding 2

The latest version of Lyall’s DeathStranding2Fix includes an option to disable depth of field. Here’s how to enable it:

  1. Make sure Death Stranding 2 isn’t running on Steam.
  2. Go to the following Codeberg link and download the latest patch file by clicking DeathStranding2Fix_0.0.3.zip (or the most recent version) under Downloads.
  3. Navigate to your Death Stranding 2 installation folder and extract the zip file using WinRAR or 7zip. The generic Steam path is: steamapps\common\DEATH STRANDING 2 – ON THE BEACH
  4. Open the extracted DeathStranding2Fix.asi file with a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++.
  5. At the bottom, under [Graphical Tweaks], change the value of DisableDOF from false to true. It should look like this: [Graphical Tweaks]
    DisableDOF=true
  6. Save the file (Ctrl+S) and exit the editor.

This will completely disable depth of field in-game, including cutscenes, conversations, the menu, and gameplay scenarios.

Additional Features of DeathStranding2Fix

Besides disabling depth of field, the patch also allows you to:

  • Adjust gameplay FOV
  • Support any aspect ratio
  • Disable cutscene pillarboxing
  • Constrain gameplay HUD to 16:9
  • Fix cropped pre-rendered cinematics

The patch is especially helpful for ultrawide monitors, but overall, Lyall has gone the extra mile to improve the PC port. All credit goes to Lyall for creating and testing the patch. Their work can be followed on Patreon, and future updates may add more features.

If you want to disable the patch entirely or a specific feature, you can either delete the patch files or set the feature’s value to false in the DeathStranding2Fix.asi configuration file.

Notes on Depth of Field and Chromatic Aberration

Currently, in-game settings do not have a toggle to fully disable depth of field; you can only adjust its quality. Depth of field is used extensively in the game’s presentation, which can reduce clarity for some players.

Similarly, chromatic aberration cannot be disabled in the game yet, but it is hoped that Lyall may add this as an option in a future update to his patch.
