Gearbox Software has returned with another entry in its long-running looter-shooter franchise. Borderlands 4 promises to be the biggest game in the series yet. Like its predecessors, it’s powered by Unreal Engine, though this time the developers have fully embraced Unreal Engine 5 with all its modern features and enhancements.
If you want to keep track of your local progress, here’s where you can find the Borderlands 4 save file location on PC.
Borderlands 4 Save File Location
Client | Save File Path |
---|---|
Steam | C:\Users\[Windows username]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames |
Epic Games Store | C:\Users\[Windows username]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames |
Inside the Borderlands 4 folder, your progress is stored in the usual Saved → SaveGames directory. For convenience, you can back up the entire Borderlands 4 folder or move it around if needed.
You can also quickly access this location by entering the following shortcut in Windows Explorer or the Run dialog.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\
As expected, you can create multiple characters in Borderlands 4. Each has its own campaign progression, making it easy to separate your single-player adventure from co-op play with friends.
Borderlands 4 on Steam
Borderlands 4 supports Steam Cloud, meaning your saves sync across devices as long as you’re logged into the same account. Other Steam-specific features include:
- Steam Family Sharing: Share the game with members of your Steam family library.
- Steam Input: While the game natively supports a wide range of controllers, Steam Input ensures smooth compatibility with third-party options.
At this point, the title is not Steam Deck Verified, and you shouldn’t expect smooth performance on it. With ray tracing enabled by default and high system demands, the game struggles on lower-end GPUs, especially during chaotic moments with lots of on-screen action.
Performance Notes
Early impressions confirm that Borderlands 4 is very much an Unreal Engine 5 experience. That means high visual fidelity, occasional stutters when loading into new areas, and a need for strong hardware. To achieve stable performance, you’ll likely need a modern system along with upscaling or frame generation features enabled.
