The Fate of the Vaal league in Path of Exile 2 introduces an exciting new way to play the endgame. It brings a unique crafting mechanic, similar to the Vaal Orb from the first game, while also expanding the endgame with a build-your-own dungeon system.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Fate of the Vaal league mechanic in Path of Exile 2’s Last of the Druids 0.4 patch.
Fate of the Vaal League Mechanic Guide for Path of Exile 2

The Fate of the Vaal league mechanic allows you to build your own dungeon filled with various rewards. As you progress through campaign areas and maps, you will encounter Vaal Beacons, which are surrounded by enemies.

These enemies can be empowered, and you must defeat all of them to activate the Vaal Beacon. Activating a beacon gives decent loot, but your main goal is to activate enough Vaal Beacons to unlock the Temple of Atziri.
The Temple of Atziri represents the build-your-own-dungeon aspect of the league. It is a temple-shaped map divided into multiple rooms. You can upgrade rooms and navigate through the Temple to collect increasingly valuable rewards, including new bosses, unique items, and more.

To access the Temple of Atziri, you must complete a certain number of Vaal Beacons to activate the portal. For example, six Energised Beacons are needed to reach the Vaal Ruins. In Act 1, there is typically at least one Vaal Beacon in every area or instance.
Progressing through these areas takes time, but it becomes faster when running Waystones or Maps. However, the challenge increases as monsters in the endgame become much stronger and are further corrupted by the Vaal Beacon effects.
You can stack up to 10 temples at a time, allowing you to run Waystones continuously and prepare Temple of Atziri runs when ready. This strategy is ideal for players who want to min-max their farming efficiency.
Building your Temple of Atziri Farm
Inside the Temple of Atziri, you will find a console displaying a dungeon map. You can place tiles onto the dungeon, creating your own layout with unique challenges and rewards.
Each tile may have special mechanics, similar to map affixes or the Trials mechanic. Some tiles can increase the level of neighboring tiles, so it’s often beneficial to upgrade a few tiles repeatedly to boost overall rewards. Your goal is to reach the final room of your dungeon, which requires continually finding Vaal Beacons to expand it.
If you played Path of Exile 1, this is similar to Alva’s Vaal Temple mechanics. Rewards include crafting, upgrades, and the double-corrupt mechanic, which allows for some of the craziest items to be crafted in both games. Expect to see short-form videos showcasing these double-corrupts as the league progresses, and in future leagues as well.
