If you’re new to Digimon Story Time Stranger (DSTS), its many mechanics can feel overwhelming. Talents, bonds, and personalities are all interconnected, and together they determine how strong your Digimon can become. One of the most important aspects of this system is the level cap, which you can increase through talent growth. Here’s how it works.
Understanding the Level Cap
A Digimon’s maximum level can reach 99, but it doesn’t start there. Even Ultimate-level Digimon may have their cap set somewhere between 35–50.
This is because a Digimon’s Talent stat dictates its level ceiling. You can check this stat on the Digimon’s info screen—it’s displayed just below the EXP bar and above the Bond percentage.
At first glance, Talent looks fixed. However, it can actually be increased through specific actions.
Ways to Increase Talent

There are five main ways to raise a Digimon’s Talent:
- Participate in battles
- Deliver the finishing blow to an enemy
- Exploit an enemy’s weakness
- Win a battle without taking damage
- Train at the DigiFarm
Essentially, the more your Digimon fights, the more their Talent grows. Strong Digimon will see faster progress since they can sweep enemies, but you can also train weaker Digimon by letting them tag along in battles.
For example, the Protect the Giant Digimeat Outer Dungeon is a great farming spot. This mission spawns around 30 weak enemies in waves. If you bring a powerful Digimon, you can one-shot them all with a DigiAttack. Not only does this award quick EXP, but each defeat also contributes to Talent growth. A run takes under two minutes, making it one of the fastest methods available.
Why Talent Doesn’t Seem to Move
You might notice that despite all this effort, the Talent stat barely appears to increase. That’s because Talent growth is only reflected when you begin a Digivolution.
Hover over a potential Digivolution, and you’ll see the projected stats of the new form—including the updated Talent value. In short: Talent gains are tracked in the background, but you only see the change once Digivolution is triggered.
Your ultimate goal is to push Talent to 100, which unlocks the full level 99 cap. Along the way, you’ll also build up Bonds naturally.
Fastest Talent Farming Methods

The quickest way to farm Talent is still Protect the Giant Digimeat, thanks to its fast spawns and short completion time. Besides Talent and EXP, you’ll also earn:
- Medical Spray DX
- Money
- Friendship S items (boost Bond by 1% per use)
Running this dungeon for about 20 minutes can max out Talent for 5–6 Digimon, including both your active and reserve slots.
Alternatively, you can look for enemy-dense areas in the main story, such as sections of Abyss Palace or certain areas of Shibuya (midgame). By lowering the difficulty to Story, you’ll be able to one-shot enemies with DigiAttacks and clear areas even faster than Outer Dungeon runs. Simply loop through these zones to respawn mobs.
Final Tip: Personality Matters
Once you’ve raised your Digimon’s Talent and unlocked their full level potential, don’t forget to adjust their Personality. This fine-tunes their growth path and helps you fully optimize their power.
With Talent, Bond, and Personality all aligned, you’ll have Digimon capable of reaching their maximum potential in battle.
