How to Increase a Digimon’s Level Cap in Digimon Story Time Stranger

If you’re new to Digimon, the mechanics in Digimon Story Time Stranger can feel overwhelming. In this game, talents, bonds, and personalities all play a crucial role in determining a Digimon’s power.

You may notice that different Digimon have varying maximum level caps. These caps are interconnected with other stats, and here’s how you can raise a Digimon’s max level in DSTS.

How to Increase a Digimon’s Max Level

A Digimon’s maximum level can reach up to 99, but it often starts much lower. Some Ultimate Digimon may initially have their max level capped around 35–50.

This is because a Digimon’s max level depends on its Talent stat. On a Digimon’s info page, you’ll find “Talent” listed just below the EXP bar and above the bond percentage.

While Talent may seem fixed, it can increase through certain actions. Here are the five main ways to boost a Digimon’s Talent:

  • Participate in battles
  • Deliver the finishing blow to an enemy
  • Hit an enemy’s weak point
  • Win a battle without taking damage
  • Train at the farm

The quickest way to increase Talent is by actively battling. Even if a Digimon is weak, you can have them join fights in Outer Dungeons, while a stronger Digimon in your party helps defeat enemies. Simply participating in battles earns Talent, while finishing enemies gives additional boosts.

For instance, the Protect the Giant Digimeat Outer Dungeon is ideal. This stage involves defending against about 30 enemies. Strong Digimon can clear them with a single DigiAttack, providing easy Talent and EXP for weaker Digimon. A run usually takes less than two minutes, making it an efficient method for talent farming.

Keep in mind that Talent changes aren’t always immediately visible. To see the updated Talent value, hover over a Digimon’s Digivolution and check the projected stats. Your goal is to max Talent at 100, allowing your Digimon to reach level 99. Using these methods will also naturally increase a Digimon’s bond.

Fastest Methods to Max Out Talent

If speed is your priority, the Protect Giant Digimeat stage is one of the fastest ways to reach the level cap. The stage spawns enemies quickly, and a run can be completed in under two minutes. You’ll also earn rewards like Medical Spray DX, money, and Friendship S, which gives a 1% bond boost for any Digimon. Running this stage for 20 minutes can max out Talent for five or six Digimon at once.

You can also use this method in story areas with high Digimon density, such as specific zones in Abyss Palace or certain parts of Shibuya (midgame). Returning to these areas repeatedly lets enemies respawn, and setting the difficulty to “Story” allows you to one-shot them with DigiAttacks. Depending on the area, this method can even be faster than Outer Dungeons.

Finally, don’t forget to adjust your Digimon’s personality to your preference to fully optimize your powerful team.
