Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t resolve every storyline it introduces, but players shouldn’t worry too much about loose ends. According to the game’s lead developers, the new Animus Hub will act as a connective thread between Shadows and the future of the series.
The Animus Hub functions as a central menu in Shadows, offering a synopsis of past Assassin’s Creed titles and allowing players to launch them directly. It also includes sections for Projects (battle passes), the Exchange (in-game shop), and the Vault, which catches players up on the ongoing modern-day storyline.
Crucially, the Animus Hub isn’t exclusive to Shadows—it’s expected to appear in upcoming Assassin’s Creed games. This raises questions about the series’ overarching narrative and continuity.
AC Shadows associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois told GamesRadar+ that the Hub is “the one thing that will keep going in time,” hinting that “things that are set up in Shadows should keep happening in other projects and evolve and move forward.” He added, “If you think of Shadows as one thing and Animus Hub as another, the Animus Hub is overlooking future games as well. It’s not just a Shadows thing.”
Fans are left wondering: Is the Animus Hub replacing traditional modern-day gameplay? Will we see protagonists like Layla or Desmond continue the story outside the Animus? Or is Ubisoft moving toward a single-player live-service model? Answers may emerge in Assassin’s Creed Hexe and future entries in the series.
