Kapp’n’s Family Hotel has arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, giving players a new way to create and customize special spaces for visiting islanders. While the Hotel unlocks naturally as you progress, there are several requirements you must meet before it becomes available, which can be confusing at first.

How to Get the Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The Hotel unlocks automatically once you reach a three-star island rating and have installed the 3.0 update, as long as a few additional conditions are met. When the Hotel becomes available, Isabelle will announce it at the start of the day, letting you know that you can now visit this new location.
Unlike most buildings in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Hotel does not require you to place a construction plot, pay Bells, or wait for it to be built. Instead, it simply appears once all requirements are completed, making the process much quicker once you qualify.
Hotel Unlock Requirements in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There are several requirements you need to complete before the Hotel appears. Most of these will be achieved naturally as you work toward earning a three-star island rating, but here is the full list of tasks that must be completed:
- Update your game to version 3.0. The Hotel is only available with this update installed.
- Reach a three-star island rating. You can check your rating by talking to Isabelle in Resident Services. If Isabelle hasn’t arrived yet, continue completing Tom Nook’s quests and improving your island.
- Have K.K. Slider perform on your island. This performance happens automatically after your island reaches three stars and takes place in the plaza in front of Resident Services.
- Upgrade the museum from a tent to a building. After Blathers arrives, donate 15 items to allow the museum to be upgraded into a permanent building.
- Unlock Kapp’n’s boat tours. Kapp’n will appear at your pier the day after your island reaches three stars and K.K. Slider performs.
Once all of these requirements are fulfilled, the Hotel will become available without any additional steps.
Hotel Location in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The Hotel’s location varies slightly from player to player because it appears as an extension of your island’s pier. Since each island’s pier location depends on the layout you selected at the start of the game, the exact placement of the Hotel will differ.
For all players, however, the pier — and therefore the Hotel — will be located on either the western or eastern beach. If you’re unsure where your pier is, you can check your map for its location. The Hotel can be found at the very end of the pier, just before Kapp’n’s boat.
