Absolum has been out for a few weeks and is already shaping up to be one of my favorite releases of the year. It’s a blast on any platform, but the PC version arguably offers the best experience. While the game isn’t demanding, ultrawide users might notice that it isn’t fully optimized for their screens.
Thankfully, Lyall from the PC modding community has created a patch that adds ultrawide support to Absolum. Here’s how to install it.
Fixing the Ultrawide Issue on PC
Lyall’s patch not only enables ultrawide support but also allows you to use any resolution you want. This means that even on devices like the Steam Deck, you can fill the entire screen for a more immersive experience.
To install the patch:
- Make sure Absolum isn’t running.
- Download the latest patch file from Codeberg page by clicking AbsolumFix_0.0.1.zip under “Downloads.”
- Extract the zip file into your Absolum installation folder, usually located at:
steamapps\common\Absolum
That’s it! The next time you launch Absolum, you’ll be able to select your preferred resolution and play without black bars on the sides. Here’s a screenshot of Absolum running at 32:9, courtesy of Lyall.
All credit goes to Lyall for creating and testing this patch. Their work is invaluable for PC gamers, and you can support their contributions on Patreon.
Additional Notes
The patch also fixes the HUD for ultrawide resolutions, ensuring no UI elements are cropped. If you ever want to remove the patch, simply delete the files included in the download.
While it would be great if the developers officially added ultrawide support in a future update, it doesn’t seem likely. Given the game’s design and level layouts, Absolum was probably never intended for ultrawide screens. Although Lyall’s patch removes this limitation, the core gameplay—such as fight locations—remains in the originally designated spots.
